SANTO DOMINGO._ – The Dominican Republic’s 4×100-meter mixed relay team was disqualified this Tuesday at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, losing the gold medal they had won on the track.

The Dominican quartet, composed of Fiordaliza Cofil, Mayovanex de Óleo, José González, and Liranyi Alonso, had crossed the finish line with a time of 40.89 seconds, the best record of the final.
However, the competition authorities determined the team’s disqualification after identifying an obstruction during the first baton pass and the encroachment of an adjacent lane in the final relay, infractions that invalidated the result.
With this decision, the podium underwent changes. Jamaica received the gold medal with a time of 41.06 seconds, Mexico took the silver with 41.14, while Cuba moved up to third place to take the bronze after recording 41.16.
Despite the disqualification, the performance of the Dominican relay team highlighted the high competitive level of national athletics, as they completed the race with the best time on the track before the official decision of the judges.
The Dominican delegation will continue its participation in the athletics competitions of the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games with the goal of continuing to add medals for the country.
