Baker, 76, is one of the most respected names in Major League history. With more than 2,000 victories in his career, he is the eighth-winningest manager of all time and one of only 13 with that mark. A three-time winner of the Manager of the Year award, Baker led five different franchises – San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Washington Nationals, and Houston Astros – to divisional titles over 26 seasons. He retired after the 2023 season. The incorporation of Dusty at the helm of the Central American team represents a qualitative leap for a selection that will seek to improve its performance from the previous edition, in which it finished in 19th place. Nicaragua secured its place in the 2026 Classic with an impeccable participation in the qualifying tournament, where it finished undefeated with a 3-0 record. In the next competition, Nicaragua will join Group D along with Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Netherlands and Israel. This phase will be played from March 6 to 11, 2026 at loanDepot park in Miami, home of the Marlins. The top two teams in the group will advance to the quarterfinals to face the leaders of Group C.
