SANTO DOMINGO.– The Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) announced this Monday the appointment of former Major League catcher Welington Castillo as manager of the team that will represent the country in the III Kids Caribbean Series, which will be held from August 10 to 16 in Nayarit, Mexico.
Castillo will take over the management of the Dominican team, replacing Anderson Hernández, who will not be able to accompany the team due to previously made commitments in Mexican summer baseball.
The general manager of the national team, Pavel Aguiló, highlighted that the choice of Castillo responds to his career, leadership, and commitment to Dominican baseball.
“Welington’s appointment represents a commitment to the talent, leadership, and experience of a man who knows what it means to wear the colors of the Dominican Republic. We are convinced that he will be a great guide for our children and that he will lead the team to compete with discipline, passion, and patriotic pride, in search of winning our country’s third consecutive Caribbean Kids Series crown,” expressed Aguiló.
LIDOM, led by its president Vitelio Mejía Ortiz, trusts in Castillo’s experience, leadership, and extensive knowledge of the game to lead the national team in the premier youth tournament organized by the Caribbean Professional Baseball Confederation.

With the commercialization of Adcio Media and the support of Arajet, the Dominican team will travel to Nayarit with the goal of defending the title obtained in the first two editions of the tournament, held in Panama (2024) and Venezuela (2025), results that make the Dominican Republic the only champion in the history of the Kids Caribbean Series.
Castillo developed a ten-season career in the Major Leagues, where he played for the Chicago Cubs, Seattle Mariners, Arizona Diamondbacks, Baltimore Orioles, Chicago White Sox, and Washington Nationals.
In Dominican professional baseball, he wore the Tigres del Licey uniform for six seasons, the organization with which he announced his retirement as a player in July 2021. Since then, he has remained linked to the club as a mentor and coach, contributing his experience to the development of new generations of players.
