Severino and Bello will open RD’s preparation games against Detroit at the Quisqueya

Santo Domingo, RD. — Pitchers Luis Severino and Brayan Bello will be in charge of starting the two preparation games that the Dominican Republic team will play against the Detroit Tigers, as part of their preparation for the 2026 World Baseball Classic.

The information was provided by the leader of the Dominican team, Albert Pujols, during the first joint practice of the team held at LoanDepot Park, the venue where the Group D matches of the tournament will be played. The training session was supervised by the team’s general manager, Nelson Cruz, along with Pujols and the rest of the coaching staff, who directed the work in an environment marked by the concentration and enthusiasm of the players. During the practice, several of the main Dominican figures from Major League Baseball coincided for the first time wearing the tricolor jersey. Among them were Juan Soto, Fernando Tatis Jr., Julio Rodríguez, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Ketel Marte, Manny Machado, Geraldo Perdomo, Junior Caminero, Austin Wells, Carlos Santana, Jeremy Peña, Oneil Cruz, Amed Rosario and Agustín Ramírez, who participated in the batting, fielding, and defensive work exercises scheduled by the coaching staff. Also present in the pitchers’ body were Sandy Alcántara, Carlos Estévez, Seranthony Domínguez, Camilo Doval, Wandy Peralta, Dennis Santana, Gregory Soto, Edwin Uceta, Huascar Brazobán, Abner Uribe, Albert Abreu and Cristopher Sánchez, who make up a staff that combines power and experience on the mound. Several of the players, including Soto, Tatis Jr., Machado, and Wells, highlighted the pride of wearing the Dominican uniform in the World Baseball Classic, emphasizing the responsibility of representing the country in one of the most important international baseball events. The day was also marked by a friendly atmosphere among players and coaching staff, with constant exchanges, smiles, and displays of support that reflect the good chemistry of the group. The Dominican team will travel this Monday to Santo Domingo, where they will practice in the afternoon at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium before playing the preparation games against Detroit.
