SANTO DOMINGO. – Dominican player Steven Moya abruptly withdrew from the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) All-Star Game in Taiwan after receiving the devastating news of his wife’s passing.

The information was initially confirmed by the Taiwanese agency Focus Taiwan, although they did not offer further details about the circumstances of the event. The left-handed batter’s wife is said to have died while on board a plane, although no further information about the tragic event has been revealed so far.
Moya, who currently plays with the Estrellas Orientales in the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (Lidom), leads the CPBL in several offensive statistics this season. His outstanding performance had led him to be one of the central figures of the All-Star Game in Asian baseball.
The left-handed outfielder has had a remarkable career. For years he was part of the Toros del Este and was later acquired by the Tigres del Licey in February 2024, in exchange for Jorge Bonifacio. However, he did not debut with the blue team, who released him in March of that same year.
In the international arena, Moya also saw action in the Major Leagues with the Detroit Tigers between 2014 and 2017. In his time in the Majors, he accumulated a batting average of .250, with five home runs and eleven RBIs.
