LOS ANGELES, USA– The ticket resale platform StubHub is facing a class-action lawsuit in the United States for allegedly failing to deliver tickets for 2026 FIFA World Cup matches, leaving numerous fans unable to attend the games despite having made their purchases.

The legal action was filed in a New York federal court by California residents Julia Reeker Moghal and Reuben Renteria, who accuse the company of using false and deceptive business practices when selling tickets that, they allege, never existed or were canceled without prior notice.
According to the lawsuit, StubHub allegedly gave the impression of having the authority to market tournament tickets, when in reality many buyers discovered that their tickets had been revoked or had disappeared due to issues related to the digital infrastructure of FIFA’s distribution system.

The plaintiffs maintain that numerous fans incurred significant expenses on airfare, lodging, and other travel costs with the confidence that their tickets were secured, only to find that they would not be able to enter the stadiums.
“The plaintiffs and class members traveled thousands of kilometers to attend the matches and discovered that they did not have valid tickets, despite having paid for them,” the court document notes.
The lawsuit also claims that this case reflects the persistent problems of the sports ticket resale industry regarding consumer protection.

The plaintiffs are seeking financial compensation for all affected individuals and are requesting that the court certify the process as a class action lawsuit, which would allow other harmed buyers to join the case.
StubHub operates as a resale marketplace where users offer tickets they will no longer use and other fans can purchase them, although the demand questions the reliability of the system used during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
