Sounders Leaves Messi Without Leagues Cup
The Seattle Sounders thrashed Inter Miami 3-0 this Sunday at Seattle’s Lumen Field in the Leagues Cup final, leaving Leo Messi without what would be his third title in American soccer. Osaze De Rosario’s goals in the first half, and Alex Roldán and Paul Rothrock’s in the second, punished Inter Miami’s lack of finishing, who had two clear opportunities to equalize the momentary 1-0, with Messi and Tadeo Allende. As a finalist, Inter Miami, champion of the Leagues Cup in 2023, will also compete in the Concacaf Champions League in 2026, just like the Sounders. It was played in a festive atmosphere in Seattle, where singer Mario Bautista enlivened the pre-match ceremony by singing the Leagues Cup anthem. Along the stands of Lumen Field, there were dozens of Messi banners, but thousands of Sounders fans made their players feel at home.
