Teresópolis (Brazil) (EFE).- Neymar, concentrated with the Brazilian national team for the 2026 World Cup, was diagnosed with a grade II muscle injury in the calf region and will be out for “two to three weeks,” the CBF reported this Thursday.

The Canarinha doctor, Rodrigo Lasmar, pointed out in a press conference that the Santos’ number 10 will continue “intensive treatment” in the coming days with the professionals of the ‘Seleção’.
Neymar joined the Brazilian concentration in Teresópolis, in the mountains of Rio de Janeiro, on Wednesday, along with another twenty of those called up by Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti.
However, he missed the first training session and went to a clinic to undergo “additional tests”.
Santos reported in the days prior to the concentration that the attacker had only an “edema” in the calf, but the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) wanted to have its own diagnosis.
«Grade II muscle injury in the calf»
Neymar underwent an MRI that confirmed a “grade II muscle injury in the calf,” as Lasmar specified to reporters.
“He will continue under intensive treatment with us and will be released in two to three weeks. That is the expectation,” said the doctor.
This way, Neymar will definitely miss the two friendlies of the Canarinha before the World Cup against Panama, on Sunday at the Maracanã stadium, and Egypt, on June 6th at the Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland (United States).
Doubt for Brazil’s debut in the World Cup
According to those deadlines, it will also be doubtful for the debut in Group C of the United States, Mexico, and Canada World Cup against Morocco, on June 13th, in New Jersey.
Brazil will then face Haiti on June 19 in Philadelphia, and Scotland five days later in Miami.
Neymar’s presence on Ancelotti’s list was a complete surprise, as the Italian coach had never called him up since taking over the reins of the Canarinha in May 2025.
However, ‘Carletto’ finally chose to call him up after observing his physical progress in recent months and having achieved some consistency with the Santos shirt.
