The Borussia Dortmund center-back suffered the injury in the 13th minute of the match against Ivory Coast, following a collision with Amad Diallo. Although he received medical attention on several occasions, he managed to complete the first half before being substituted.

For the second half, Antonio Rüdiger came on, taking his place in the defense.

Schlotterbeck’s absence represents a major blow for Germany, as in addition to being a solid defender, he is the only left-footed center-back in the squad and a key piece in playing the ball out from the defense.
