President of the Jordan Football Association accuses FIFA of blackmail and reports delay in payments

AMMAN, Jordan. The president of the Jordan Football Association, Ali Al Hussein, publicly accused FIFA of exerting undue pressure and delaying outstanding payments, in a series of statements that increase criticism of the management of the organization’s president, Gianni Infantino.

Through a statement published on his social media, Al Hussein, who is also a prince of Jordan and was a candidate for the FIFA presidency in 2015 and 2016, denounced that his federation has still not received the money corresponding to its participation in the 2025 Arab Cup, a tournament in which the Jordanian national team reached the final.

The leader also questioned the costs his federation faced during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, asserting that the team had to assume taxes for their stay in the United States, a situation that, he claimed, reduced resources allocated to players and coaching staff.

Al Hussein’s most serious accusation points to an alleged attempt at pressure by FIFA. As he explained, during the World Cup he was verbally informed that supporting Gianni Infantino’s candidacy for the 2027 presidential elections would facilitate the delivery of the pending funds.

“We pride ourselves in Jordan on upholding ethical values. We did not endorse it before and we certainly will not do so now. The whole situation amounts to blackmail and we refuse to give in,” expressed the president of the Jordanian federation.

The statements come at a time when several national federations have publicly expressed their distancing from Infantino ahead of the next electoral process. Among them are Wales, Sweden, Finland, Serbia, and England, while the German Football Association has requested a review of FIFA’s leadership and questioned the lack of transparency in some of the organization’s recent decisions.

Al Hussein’s allegations represent one of the most scathing criticisms made to date by an international football leader against the current FIFA administration.
