DG Cine and Arajet bring Dominican film to Toronto Film Festival

Santo Domingo. – The Dominican film Bajo el Mismo Sol, directed by Ulises Porra and produced by Alexandra Santana and Ulla Prida, will have its world premiere on September 11th at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The presentation is supported by the General Directorate of Cinema, the Dominican Embassy in Canada, and the Dominican flag carrier Arajet, who will be bringing the film crew to Toronto, as well as journalists from the city, under the strategy of continuing to position the Dominican Republic as a strategic destination in the continent for the realization of cinematographic productions. Under the Same Sun is a historical drama set in 1819, which tells the story of a young Spanish heir, a Chinese weaver, and a Haitian deserter, who seek to establish a silk company in the heart of the Island. The specialized press pass for TIFF will be on Tuesday, September 9th at the Scotiabank Theatre in Toronto, with the world premiere taking place on Thursday, September 11th also at the Scotiabank Theatre and where special guests and press, production members, DGCINE, Arajet and the Dominican Embassy will attend, followed by a special reception at the Milagro Cantina restaurant. This is the second time that Arajet and the General Directorate of Cinema are joining forces to support Dominican film productions at the Toronto International Film Festival. Last year they supported the screening of the film Pepé, and now they continue with this initiative within the framework of the inter-institutional agreement signed between the airline and DGCine, which seeks to internationalize Dominican cinema and promote the country as a filming destination for foreign productions. Under the Same Sun is a feature film of 103 minutes, directed by Ulises Porra, with the main performances by David Castillo, Valentina Shen Wu and Jean Jean. The film was filmed mostly in the mountains of the Central Mountain Range of the Dominican Republic and is expected that after its premiere in Toronto, it will continue to be presented in other international festivals before its commercial release in the country later on.
