The president of the Education Commission of the National Congress, Arnold Burgos, requested this Friday the dismissal of the teacher accused of physically assaulting a student in the municipality of Morazán, Yoro, while announcing that he will promote initiatives to install security cameras in public educational centers with the aim of preventing similar events.
The congressman stated that the National Party caucus expressed its indignation following the release of the video in which the teacher is seen allegedly assaulting a student inside the classroom, which is why he considered that the educator should be removed from her position while the investigations conclude.
Burgos maintained that there are established disciplinary mechanisms to address situations related to student conduct, and therefore rejected any act of physical or verbal violence by teaching staff.
“There are disciplinary measures other than hitting a student or disrespecting them,” the congressman stated when referring to the incident that has generated various reactions in public opinion.
The deputy reported that they were initially unaware that the teacher had already been sought by the authorities; however, they later confirmed that she was detained by agents of the Police Investigation Directorate (DPI).

“We were unaware that by that time the teacher had already been detained by the authorities of the Police Investigation Directorate and not only detained, but she was detained and transferred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office facilities for being allegedly responsible for the crime of degrading treatment,” he declared.
According to Burgos, it is now up to the Department of Education to determine the appropriate administrative sanctions once the investigation process concludes.
The legislator pointed out that, according to the images shared on social media, the teacher allegedly first verbally assaulted a student, subsequently struck her on the head, and then also assaulted the student who was recording what happened with a cell phone.
In the opinion of the president of the Education Commission, this type of behavior must not be repeated within the educational system, which is why he insisted on the need to strengthen supervision and prevention mechanisms in educational centers.
In that sense, he reported that the National Congress Education Commission has received several initiatives aimed at installing video surveillance cameras in the country’s public schools and colleges, as a tool to improve security and document any incident that may occur within the premises.

“What we are looking for is to prevent and not to react later; that is what we are going to seek from the National Congress,” the deputy stated when referring to the proposals currently being analyzed.
Burgos explained that the projects have already been submitted to the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance, institutions that must issue the corresponding technical and budgetary reports before they can advance in the legislative process.
He indicated that the implementation of video surveillance systems will require a significant financial investment, which is why it will be necessary to establish a financing mechanism that allows the project to be executed gradually in the different educational centers of the country.
The parliamentarian considered that the installation of cameras would not only contribute to preventing aggression between teachers and students, but also other events that could put the integrity of the educational community at risk, strengthening transparency and accountability mechanisms within the school system.
Meanwhile, educational authorities are keeping the administrative process open to establish the appropriate actions against the teacher involved, while the Public Prosecutor’s Office continues with the investigative proceedings related to the case.
