Santo Domingo.– The Plenary of the Central Electoral Board (JCE) decided to temporarily annul the application of the regulation that limits the publication of polls before the start of the electoral pre-campaign period, scheduled for the first Sunday of July of next year.

The measure will remain in effect until the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) rules on the appeals filed by different sectors questioning that provision, which entered into force on May 22.

The JCE explained that the provisional suspension seeks to await the court’s decision regarding the challenges filed against the regulation, before continuing with its implementation.

Among the entities that requested a review of the regulations is Participación Ciudadana, an organization that on May 28 asked to eliminate the restriction that prevents the conducting and dissemination of opinion polls outside of the official pre-campaign and electoral campaign periods.
