Santo Domingo.– The executive director of the National Health Service (SNS), Dr. Julio Landrón, assured that the Dominican Republic’s exit from the world hunger map represents a significant advance for the population’s health, highlighting that adequate nutrition is a determining factor in the prevention of diseases and the well-being of people.
A recent report by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) states that the Dominican Republic has left the world hunger map, after recording a prevalence of undernourishment of less than 2.5%.
Landrón congratulated and thanked the government of President Luis Abinader for the efforts made to achieve this milestone, which, according to the FAO’s State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World (SOFI 2026) report, allowed the country to no longer be part of the list of nations with the highest levels of hunger.
“This government has prioritized truly important issues like this one to ensure that citizens have access to adequate and nutritious food, because a well-nourished population is a healthier population with a lower risk of disease,” stated the head of the SNS.

Likewise, he highlighted that proper nutrition contributes to the strengthening of a more preventive healthcare system, where the promotion of healthy lifestyles and the integral well-being of the population play a central role.
Finally, Landrón reiterated the National Health Service’s commitment to continue promoting actions aimed at health promotion and disease prevention, in coordination with other State institutions, to guarantee better living conditions for citizens.
