Santo Domingo.– The Ministry of Public Administration (MAP) has initiated an in-person audit process of state payrolls with the objective of verifying the actual number of public servants and correcting existing discrepancies in the records of government institutions.
The Minister of Public Administration, Sigmund Freund, explained that the State currently does not have a consolidated figure of its employees due to the lack of connection between the databases of the different public entities.
During a meeting with editors and media executives, Freund indicated that the Social Security Treasury registers around 700 thousand public sector contributors, although he clarified that this amount does not represent the total number of state workers.
The official estimated that the actual number of public employees would be below 780 thousand, but noted that it will be the verification process, in which three auditing firms are participating, that will allow the exact number to be established. The review is expected to conclude in December of this year.
In addition to reviewing payrolls, the MAP also evaluates working conditions within public institutions, including the organizational climate and existing differences in salary scales.

Freund maintained that part of the dissatisfaction among state employees is related to the current salary structure, which, as he explained, presents distortions because the law regulating public salaries has not been updated.

The minister added that the Government is working on a system that will allow the integration of personnel information from different institutions to improve the management of the State’s human resources.
