Santo Domingo.- Marco Rubio and Ito Bisonó address bilateral trade and investment during a conversation in which the United States Secretary of State congratulated the newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic and reaffirmed the ties between both countries.

The exchange included topics related to the growth of trade, investments, and opportunities for the participation of U.S. companies in the Dominican economy, according to a communication from the State Department.

The spokesperson for that institution, Tommy Pigott, reported that Rubio communicated with Víctor “Ito” Bisonó to congratulate him on assuming his new duties and to reiterate the partnership between Washington and Santo Domingo.

During the conversation, both officials analyzed possibilities to expand trade relations and investment flows between the two nations.

According to Pigott, among the issues addressed were new opportunities for U.S. companies to participate in the Dominican Republic’s economic growth through transparent and mutually beneficial partnerships.

Rubio also referred to digital infrastructure and pointed out the importance of having secure and reliable systems as part of the measures linked to economic resilience and regional security.

In this way, Marco Rubio and Ito Bisonó address bilateral trade and investment in one of the Dominican official’s first contacts with U.S. authorities since he took office at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Bisonó recently took over the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

President Luis Abinader appointed Bisonó as Minister of Foreign Affairs, replacing Roberto Álvarez, who had held the position since August 2020.

Before assuming his new diplomatic responsibilities, Bisonó served as Minister of Housing, Habitat and Buildings.

Following his transfer to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jean Luis Rodríguez was appointed to assume the leadership of that institution.

The contact between Rubio and Bisonó took place at the beginning of the new chancellor’s administration and focused on economic, commercial, technological, and security issues of interest to the Dominican Republic and the United States.
