Monte Plata.– Given the high number of traffic accidents recorded in the Monte Plata province, especially those involving motorcycles, civil authorities, municipal officials, and road safety agencies held an awareness march this Thursday with the goal of promoting responsible driving and strengthening a culture of prevention among drivers.
The activity was led by the provincial governor, Rafaela Javier Gomera, and included the participation of representatives from the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant), the General Directorate of Traffic and Land Transportation Safety (Digesett), the Monte Plata City Council, religious and community leaders, and other institutions.
During the tour through the main streets of the head municipality, Javier Gomera highlighted that the initiative responds to the authorities’ concern regarding the high road accident figures in the province.
“The purpose of this march is to raise awareness among motorcycle drivers so that they drive prudently and respect traffic regulations. In addition, we already have an Intrant office in the province to facilitate the regularization of processes related to traffic and motorcycles,” he expressed.
For his part, the provincial director of Digesett, Yuli Henyer Cuevas, revealed that the majority of fatal victims from traffic accidents in Monte Plata are motorcyclists.

“We have a high incidence of traffic accidents and nearly 90% of the fatalities are motorcycle users. With this initiative, we seek to ensure that the prevention message reaches every community in the province and contributes to reducing these figures,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Anderson de los Santos urged motorcycle taxi drivers and motorcyclists to reflect on the responsibility that driving entails.
“Every time you go out into the streets, remember that there is a family waiting for you at home. Most are hardworking men who go out to seek a living for their households, but it is essential to do so with caution and by respecting traffic laws,” he stated.
On behalf of the mayor of Monte Plata, Héctor Figari, René Ysidro Fabián highlighted that the activity marks the beginning of a permanent road safety education process aimed at reducing accidents in the municipality.

He pointed out that the council will continue to support these types of initiatives, considering that prevention and education are fundamental tools to reduce the loss of life on the roads.
During the march, Carlos Guinche, promoter of the activity, valued the initiative and highlighted that awareness campaigns must be extended throughout the country due to the impact that traffic accidents have on Dominican families.
The authorities reiterated the call to use protective helmets, respect speed limits, avoid reckless maneuvers, and comply with traffic regulations, considering that prevention remains the main tool to reduce road accidents and preserve lives in the province of Monte Plata.
