Santiago.- The tragedy caused by the explosion of a gas tank at a food establishment in San Francisco de Macorís claimed a second fatal victim this Tuesday, following the death of a one-year-old girl who remained hospitalized with severe burns at the Dr. Thelma Rosario Children’s Burn Center, located at the Arturo Grullón Regional University Pediatric Hospital in Santiago.
The minor, identified as Adara Ángeles, died due to the severe injuries sustained during the explosion that occurred last Sunday. According to the medical report, she had burns on 30% of her body surface, in addition to an inhalation injury that required her to be kept on mechanical ventilation and under constant monitoring in the intensive care unit.
With this death, the number of people who have died as a result of the explosion recorded at the fry shop rises to two, an event that also left several injured and has left the population of the Duarte province in shock.

The Children’s Burn Center also reported that a 13-year-old adolescent, also affected by the explosion, was medically discharged and will continue his recovery process on an outpatient basis.
The authorities indicated that the incident left a total of nine people injured, including three minors and six adults. Three of the adult patients were transferred to a specialized burn center in Santo Domingo, while the others continue to receive medical attention in San Francisco de Macorís.
