Madrid.- The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, recalled this Friday that the irregular entries recorded by Frontex in countries such as Italy between 2021 and 2026 are double those of Spain and has called for respect for European treaties.
“Solidarity and empathy are optional. Respect for European treaties and data is not,” the head of the Executive stresses in a message on X after the Italian government proposed suspending the application of the Schengen free movement treaty and linked the Ceuta crisis to its migration policy.
In his message, Sánchez points out that, according to Frontex, between 2021 and 2026 the number of irregular entries through Italy amounted to 478,600; through the Western Balkans, to 340,600; through Greece, to 259,800; through Spain, to 234,760; and through the eastern border, to 48,000.
“It is not the time to divide. It is time to continue building a strong and united EU,” emphasizes the President of the Government.

The European Commission stated this Friday that it is not possible to speculate on the reasons for the arrival of migrants in Ceuta and recalled that this autonomous city and Melilla are not subject to Schengen regulations, after countries such as Finland and Denmark, in addition to Italy, proposed breaking off cooperation with Spain in that free movement area.
