Santiago de los Caballeros. The City Council of Santiago de los Caballeros began this Monday the sanitation and comprehensive intervention works of the Hoya de Caimito ravine in Santiago, in the section between the El Embrujo I, Villa Olga, Los Hidalgos, and La Española sectors, with an investment of RD$266,130,377.85, financed with resources provided by the central government.
The work is part of the urban transformation actions promoted by the administration of Mayor Ulises Rodríguez, with the support of the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, and seeks to recover an area historically affected by pollution and drainage problems, turning it into a safe, organized, and sustainable space for the families of Santiago.
While leading the start of the works, Mayor Ulises Rodríguez highlighted that the project represents a comprehensive intervention aimed at improving the quality of life for residents and recovering spaces that had remained in deteriorated conditions for years.

“We are transforming a highly polluted area that for years has threatened the health and safety of the entire environment, turning it into a space for development, recreation, and well-being for the community. This intervention includes a comprehensive rainwater drainage solution, the sanitation of the ravine, the construction of an Environmental Theme Park, a modern parking lot, and a major road solution that will significantly improve mobility and the quality of life for citizens,” expressed Rodríguez.

Meanwhile, the governor of Santiago, Rosa Santos, urged the residents of the beneficiary communities to take on an active commitment to the preservation of the work, pointing out that the success of sanitation projects does not depend solely on public investment, but also on citizen participation.
He indicated that the construction of the culvert and the linear park will represent a significant transformation for the environment, which is why he called for avoiding the dumping of waste into the ravine once the work is completed.
On behalf of the residents of El Embrujo I, José Persia, coordinator of the O&M University in Santiago, valued the start of the sanitation works of the Hoya de Caimito ravine as a project of profound social impact that will contribute to the urban, economic, and community development of Santiago.

He highlighted that the project will directly benefit sectors such as El Embrujo I, Villa Olga, Los Hidalgos, and La Española, while strengthening the quality of life for hundreds of families.
The project includes the sanitation of 496 linear meters of the ravine, the construction of an Environmental Theme Park of more than 8,000 square meters, and a parking lot with a capacity for more than 85 vehicles, in addition to the recovery of land that remained occupied for years and will be returned to the use and enjoyment of the citizenry.
The intervention includes the construction of modern hydraulic infrastructure for the collection and conveyance of rainwater, through the installation of pipes, storm drains, manholes, and interconnections that will contribute to a definitive solution to the drainage problems in the area.
Likewise, earthmoving works, reinforced concrete structures, and the construction of a box culvert designed to ensure proper water management and the stability of the entire intervention will be carried out.
The urban component includes pedestrian paths, sidewalks, curbs, accessibility ramps, parking areas, modern lighting, and communal spaces that will strengthen the integration of the beneficiary communities.
As part of the environmental recovery plan, large trees and various ornamental species will be planted, in addition to the installation of an automated irrigation system that will guarantee the maintenance of the green areas.
The project will also incorporate recreational spaces for the whole family, including a playground, outdoor gym, street furniture, and areas intended for leisure and physical activity.
Regarding mobility, the project will allow connecting the República de Argentina and José María Fadul avenues with 7th Street up to Rafael Vidal Avenue, creating a new pair of one-way streets that will contribute to decongesting traffic and improving vehicular circulation in this important area of Santiago.

With this intervention, the Mayor’s Office of Santiago continues to advance its environmental recovery, public space rescue, and urban modernization program, executing works that directly impact the quality of life of citizens and strengthen the sustainable development of the municipality.
The activity was attended by Vice Mayor Mariana Moreno; the President of the Council of Councilors, accompanied by a commission of councilors; Arismendi Dajer, Secretary General of the City Council; Andrés Cueto, Director of CORAASAN; Dr. Plutarco Arias, among other government and municipal officials, members of the El Embrujo I Neighborhood Association, and dozens of community members from the sector.
