Asunción.- Paraguayan President Santiago Peña stated this Wednesday that he is not yet satisfied with the achievements reached during his three years in government, despite the fact that, as he said, he has made “progress” such as the reduction of poverty, the implementation of social programs, and economic growth that is projected to be 4.2% in 2026.
n” “n“I am the first to confess it and say it loud and clear: Despite the progress, it is not enough, I should have done more and my ministers must do more and I promise you that I will not rest until the last day of my term to do more for the Paraguayans,” said the president while delivering his third management report before the National Congress.
n” “n“We still have a lot of work to do in health, in education, in commitments already made regarding public works and medicines, sensitive areas with historical and other emerging problems,” added Peña, noting that Paraguay, despite being “a wonderful country,” still lacks “a great deal to reach the place it is destined to occupy.”

n” “nHowever, the head of state stressed that in the last year, total poverty was reduced from 19.6% to 16% and extreme poverty from 3.7% to 2.4%. Furthermore, between 2022 and 2025, more than 493,000 people overcame poverty and 180,000 escaped extreme poverty.
n” “n“These are historic, unprecedented figures since poverty has been measured in Paraguay,” stated the president, for whom the “task will not be finished” as long as there are compatriots in poverty.
