President Luis Abinader will be honored next Wednesday, September 23, in New York with the Gold Insignia of Americas Society, the highest recognition granted by that organization to democratically elected heads of State.
Americas Society announced this Thursday that it will present the award to Abinader for what it considers his leadership and contribution to the economic, democratic, and institutional progress of the Dominican Republic and the region.

The ceremony will be held privately at the organization’s headquarters in New York and will bring together business leaders and representatives from the public sector.
According to the Americas Society, Abinader will be recognized for his management during the Dominican economic recovery, his commitment to strengthening democracy, and his participation in regional cooperation initiatives, especially regarding security and economic integration.

The distinction will be presented by Susan Segal, president and CEO of Americas Society/Council of the Americas, and Andrés Gluski, chairman of its board of directors.
The highest recognition from Americas Society
The Gold Badge is awarded to heads of State who, according to the organization’s criteria, have developed a management with significant impact in their respective countries and in the hemisphere.
Americas Society describes the distinction as its highest honor for democratically elected heads of state who have made exceptional contributions to their countries and achieved international relevance. That definition also appears in historical documents of the institution.

Abinader had already received another recognition
Abinader’s relationship with Americas Society/Council of the Americas is not new.
The president has previously participated in meetings organized by the entity in New York and Washington. In 2024, he received the Chairman’s Award for Leadership in the Americas during the Washington Conference on the Americas, according to the AS/COA impact report.

In addition, he has visited the organization’s headquarters in New York several times during the United Nations General Assembly to participate in private meetings with business representatives and regional leaders.
Americas Society, founded in 1965 and based in New York, develops programs on political, economic, and cultural issues in Latin America, the Caribbean, and Canada.
