Santiago.- The Coalition of Social, Popular, Feminist, and Environmental Organizations of the
Cibao granted yesterday, Monday, a deadline until October 13 for the Central Government to offer “clear and satisfactory” responses to its list of demands. If this is not met, the entity announced that it will ratify the call for a regional strike on Monday, the 27th of the same month.
Feminist activist Raquel Rivera, spokesperson for the organization, reported that a commission delivered the document with the demands directly to the National Palace, which she described as a gesture of seriousness and legitimacy in their claims.
Rivera warned that, if there is no official reaction before the deadline, they will proceed to paralyze activities throughout the northern region as a pressure measure, which would impact key sectors of the Cibao.
Main Demands
Among the points demanded by the Coalition are:
• Equipment and better functioning of hospitals.
• Supply of drinking water.
• Electrification of communities.
• Repair and asphalting of streets.
• Construction of sidewalks and curbs.
• Sanitation of ravines.
• Intervention of 30 Caballeros street.
• Installation of sewers in La Piña-Santa Lucía-Las Moscas.
• Complete intervention of the sewer system.
The organization also criticized the high prices of the basic basket and reiterated its rejection of the so-called “shootouts”, which they hold responsible for fostering insecurity and citizen distrust.
Call to society
Finally, the Coalition called on civil society and community movements to remain vigilant and prepared to support the actions that are defined after the deadline expires.
With this warning, the social movement once again places at the center of the debate the tension between the citizen demands of the Cibao and the official responses, which could lead to one of the largest protest days in recent years in the northern region.
