Santiago de los Caballeros.- The massive Corpus Christi celebration not only reaffirmed the Catholic faith in Santiago, but also became a significant economic boost for dozens of informal vendors who took advantage of the gathering of thousands of people to significantly increase their sales.
From the early hours of the morning, the faithful from different parishes of the Archdiocese of Santiago participated in the traditional procession and the central Eucharist of the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, one of the most relevant dates in the Catholic liturgical calendar.
The massive attendance of believers transformed the surroundings of the activity into a dynamic commercial scene, where vendors of food, drinks, water, sweets, and religious items reported a day of high demand.

“Sales were very good. When there are activities like this, movement always increases and one takes the opportunity to bring sustenance to their home,” said merchant María Ortiz, who set up near the procession route in the surroundings of the Cibao Stadium.
While thousands of Catholics publicly demonstrated their faith, dozens of informal workers found in the celebration an opportunity to generate income, evidencing the economic impact that large religious events produce in the city.
