Santo Domingo.- The Chamber of Deputies approved this Tuesday, in two consecutive discussions, a bill that designates the Santo Domingo Beltway as “Professor Juan Bosch” and the Ecological Avenue, located in the east zone of Santo Domingo province, as “Doctor José Francisco Peña Gómez”.

The initiative was presented by the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Alfredo Pacheco, along with the deputies Rafael Augusto Castillo Casado, Onavel Aristy, Gustavo Sánchez, Fiordaliza Estévez, Eduviges Bautista, Braulio Espinal and Amado Díaz. During the project’s motivation, Pacheco highlighted the leadership and political trajectories of Bosch and Peña Gómez, noting that the democracy and social and political stability that the country enjoys today are the result of the influence and leadership exerted by these leaders, along with Dr. Joaquín Balaguer. The president of the Special Commission that studied the project, deputy Juan José Rojas, highlighted that this designation not only names two important avenues, but also pays homage to two fundamental pillars in the history of the Dominican Republic.

“Juan Bosch and Peña Gómez were two leaders who, from different trenches, shared the same cause: democracy, social justice, and national progress,” Rojas affirmed. Furthermore, in the session, several resolutions were approved that request the Executive Branch to build and renovate sports facilities, police detachments, passport offices, and a trauma hospital in different communities of the country. The deputies also observed a minute of silence in memory of the deceased Vicente Sánchez Baret, a high-ranking leader of the Dominican Revolutionary Party and former senator for Sánchez Ramírez, as well as for Manuel Mejía, businessman; Ramón Matos, merchant; and Radhamés Pérez, student from Pedernales.
