Santo Domingo,.- The Dominican Republic deported 153,144 undocumented Haitians in the first five months of 2025, amid its offensive against irregular immigration, figures that mark a “sustained growth” compared to other years, according to data provided this Monday by the General Directorate of Migration (DGM).
In May, 34,190 undocumented Haitian immigrants were deported, the highest figure reached in a month so far this year, the institution specified in a statement.

In April, 32,540 were sent to their country, in March 28,534, in February 26,659, and in January 31,221.The detentions of those undocumented foreigners “mark a trajectory of sustained growth that demonstrates the effectiveness of the interdiction operations” executed by the DGM, in compliance with the provision of the National Defense and Security Council and the guidelines of the Dominican president, Luis Abinader, “to confront irregular migration and guarantee Dominican integrity and sovereignty in the face of the sociopolitical crisis that Haiti is suffering,” the note added.
The arrests “are carried out respecting all national and international rights and regulations related to the matter”, added Migration.

The Dominican government implemented a deportation plan in October 2024 with which it sought to repatriate 10,000 Haitians per week to control irregular migration.
Furthermore, in April of this year, President Abinader announced fifteen new measures against migration from neighboring Haiti, a country with which the Dominican Republic shares the island of Hispaniola and which has been embroiled in a deep crisis for years.One of those measures links access to health services with expulsion from the country and is criticized by the UN and Amnesty International (AI).
Precisely on Sunday, Migration reported that the country has deported 186 undocumented pregnant women and 559 in labor, who were detained in hospitals since April 21 when a protocol was implemented in 33 health centers
