Santo Domingo. – The National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) reported this Monday that the plantation of more than 15,000 marijuana plants recently dismantled in a rural community of San José de Ocoa weighs more than 13,000 pounds (5.8 tons), according to analyses by the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF).

According to the experts, the total weight of the shipment was estimated at 13,893 pounds, which represents one of the largest seizures linked to this type of crop in the country.

The case remains under investigation by the Public Ministry and the DNCD, following an operation that began with the dismantling of an initial plantation of more than 3,000 plants in the mountainous area of El Pinar, in the San José de Ocoa province.

In relation to that first intervention, three people were arrested and are currently serving pretrial detention.

Meanwhile, regarding the most recent discovery —considered the largest ever recorded in the country— authorities have interrogated more than ten people, both Dominican and Haitian, as part of the ongoing investigative process.
