PLD claims it does not promote floor-crossing
Santo Domingo.- The legal secretary of the Dominican Liberation Party, José Dantés Díaz, clarified that the “Vuelta a Casa” (Return Home) program was not created to attract leaders from other political organizations, but to establish an internal mechanism to facilitate the return of former PLD militants who decided to return to the ranks of that organization.n”
“n Referring to the recent swearing-in ceremonies of leaders who had left the party to join other political organizations, Dantés explained that the PLD found it necessary to structure a formal procedure to manage these re-entries due to the growing number of former militants who have expressed their interest in returning. “In view of the number of leaders and former militants who for one reason or another left our party for other parties, the organization found it necessary to articulate an internal procedure in order to be able to receive those militants and those leaders again,” he expressed. He indicated that the process involves several administrative and verification steps, similar to those that anyone joining a political organization must complete, including their incorporation into the party registry and a background check. Dantés maintained that the name “Vuelta a Casa” (Return Home) arises precisely to identify that internal protocol and ensure that those who decide to return can do so in an orderly manner and in accordance with the party’s rules. “That does not mean that ‘Return Home’ is a program whose function or mission is to go and recruit people who have left our party, because we do not act like other parties that do promote floor-crossing,” he stated. The statements come after former President Danilo Medina led a swearing-in ceremony this weekend in Hato del Yaque, Santiago, for more than 200 leaders who returned to the PLD, an activity in which he reiterated that the organization welcomes its former members “with open arms.” For her part, PLD vice president, Zoraima Cuello, highlighted that in addition to the former militants who are returning, the party is experiencing a significant incorporation of new members, especially young people and professionals from various areas. As explained, people linked to the health, education, law, and other sectors are entering political activity for the first time through the PLD, considering that this organization represents an alternative to promote the development and well-being of the population.
