Santo Domingo.– Moments of tension were recorded again this Wednesday at the Ciudad Nueva Palace of Justice, after the court sentenced Juan Manuel Méndez Pérez and Ángel Gabriel Martínez Acevedo to 30 years in prison, having been found guilty of attempting to murder María Teresa Núñez during a shooting attack that occurred at her business.
According to the judicial decision, a minor and Salvador Emilio Carvajal, who were in the establishment at the time of the events, were also injured during the attack.
The court accepted the evidence presented by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which established the criminal responsibility of both defendants in the shooting, which, according to the indictment, had been ordered by inmates of a penitentiary center.
Family members question the sentence
After the ruling was announced, relatives of the convicted individuals caused a disturbance at the Courthouse facilities and expressed their rejection of the court’s decision.
One of the family members claimed that the process was allegedly flawed and asserted, without presenting evidence, that the decision had been influenced by acts of corruption.

Likewise, a defense representative stated that, according to information he claimed to have received from sources, a Public Prosecutor allegedly met with the plaintiff before the sentence was issued.

During statements made to the press, he requested that the Attorney General’s Office investigate those allegations, considering that they could affect the transparency of the process.
So far, the Public Prosecutor’s Office has not issued a public reaction regarding the accusations made by the defense, which have not been supported by evidence of public knowledge.
The incidents were controlled by security agents present at the Courthouse, with no injuries reported.
