Santiago. – A young woman identified as Lisbeth Meléndez, 24 years old, lost her life yesterday afternoon after being swept away by the rising waters of the El Calientísimo creek in the municipality of Tamboril, while trying to cross the tributary. Her body was recovered hours later by rescue brigades with the support of the Fire Department.
The event occurred amidst the strong breezes and downpours recorded around 4:30 pm on Sunday in the southern part of Santiago, which caused the fall of at least seven trees, electrical cables, signs, and a sliding door, obstructing traffic on several streets.
The situation also caused the Diablo and Portezuela ravines to swell, causing damage to homes in the Fracatán sector.
Civil Defense Brigades, Firefighters, and Edenorte personnel worked on the rehabilitation of the roads, removing debris and restoring electrical service in affected areas.
Authorities are maintaining a cleanup and assistance operation in Santiago and Tamboril, while urging the population to avoid crossing rivers and streams during the rains due to the danger posed by sudden floods.
