Two Ecuadorian women were detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at a hospital in Florida after receiving treatment for injuries sustained in a serious car accident, according to local media.
Grace Stephanie Calero Cabanilla, 39, and her daughter, Giulianna Mía Carriel Calero, 19, were injured when another vehicle struck their car, causing it to overturn several times.
An ICE spokesperson confirmed that both women had legally entered the United States but had overstayed their visas. Authorities reportedly discovered their immigration status while investigating the crash and requested detention orders.
The women were taken into custody after being discharged from the hospital and transferred to a local jail. They remain detained while facing deportation proceedings.
A family member, Jonathan Bravo, said the family wants justice for the women and expressed concern that they were detained after receiving medical treatment.

The hospital said its priority is to provide care to all patients regardless of immigration status and that it complies with the law when interacting with U.S. authorities.
