PLD denounces that school construction projects remain paralyzed and asserts that only four centers have been completed by the current Government
Montecristi.– A few days before the start of the school year, leaders of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) reported that more than 35 educational centers remain under construction in the Montecristi province, a situation that, according to them, affects children and adolescents who are still waiting for adequate spaces to receive instruction.
Eddy Toribio, member of the PLD Central Committee, assured that during the administration of former President Danilo Medina, 317 classrooms, more than 20 schools, and a polytechnic were built in the province.

“More than 35 educational centers are under construction and this Government has only finished four. There are boys and girls who still do not receive the opportunity of a school center because this Government abandoned the educational sector of the Montecristi province,” declared Toribio during a press conference.

The situation of the education sector is also part of the collective complaint filed by the opposition organization and read by Zoraima Cuello, a member of the PLD Political Committee.
In the document, the party maintains that a survey conducted in the province identified educational centers that were left with completion levels between 60% and 95% and that, almost six years later, have still not been finished.
The PLD argued that the halting of those works generates a double impact for the province, because students and teachers do not receive the services for which the public resources were intended, while the unfinished structures deteriorate and may require greater investments for their completion.

“In the case of schools, the damage is even greater: children and young people continue to receive instruction in inadequate conditions while the classrooms that are needed remain unfinished,” notes the document presented by the organization.
The PLD leaders demanded that the Government continue the pending educational projects and ensure that students in Montecristi have facilities in adequate conditions to receive instruction.
The complaint regarding education is in addition to the claims made by the PLD concerning the supply of drinking water, electrical service, hospital infrastructure, and the situation of agricultural producers in Montecristi.
