Vatican City.- The new pope, whose name will be known shortly, has moved from the Sistine Chapel to the so-called Room of Tears, in order to get dressed to appear to the world on the balcony of the basilica of St. Peter’s Square.
This is foreseen in the ritual for the election of the new pontiff, which was reported at 18:08 hours (16:08 GMT) by means of the white smoke.
The new pope has obtained at least two-thirds of the votes of the 133 cardinal electors (which are 89) and after that count, he will have accepted the commission and decided what name he wants to be called.
From the Sistine Chapel, the chosen one is invited to go to the ‘Room of Tears’, where the vestments that he can begin to wear have been prepared for days.
The room is known by that name because historically it is the place where the chosen one could remain calm for a moment and, eventually, pray and cry to relieve the accumulated tension.
In that chamber there are three long habits or white cassocks of different sizes depending on the height of the chosen one, as well as four short vestments like surplices, a mozzetta or tippet of purple color and a purple stole with golden decoration.

Also, if you wish, you can choose between shoes of different sizes, sashes, a cord, and a golden cross, all arranged there. Then you will receive the homage of the rest of the cardinals.
It falls to the protodeacon, the French Cardinal Dominique Mamberti, to first appear on the basilica’s balcony to announce who the chosen one is and the name with which he will govern the Church.
After the new pope will address those present in St. Peter’s and will give the urbi et orbi blessing.
