NEW YORK. – Giancarlo Stanton continues to make steady progress in his recovery process after suffering from epicondylitis in both elbows. The Yankees’ designated hitter participated this Wednesday in a batting practice session on the Yankee Stadium field, as part of his progressive return to the active roster.

Stanton, 35, has yet to debut this season due to the discomfort he has been experiencing since last year, when he played despite the pain and even rose as the Most Valuable Player of the American League Championship Series against the Cleveland Guardians.
To speed up his recovery, the slugger received three injections of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and, although he acknowledges that he will probably have to deal with chronic discomfort in his elbows, he assured that he feels fit to compete.
“If I’m out there, it’s because I’m well enough to play. There’s nothing more to say,” Stanton stated.
Although the player himself anticipated that he will need some rehabilitation games in the minor leagues, manager Aaron Boone does not rule out that Stanton could be available at the end of May, when his stay on the 60-day injured list ends. The Yankees will begin a West Coast tour on that date against the Angels and Dodgers.

Boone emphasized that Stanton’s rehabilitation has been particular, as it does not require defensive preparation and he has been facing pitches from the high-speed “Trajekt” machine in recent weeks.
In addition, the Yankees could soon count on the return of Nicaraguan pitcher Jonathan Loáisiga, who was transferred to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre as part of his rehabilitation after elbow surgery. The plan contemplates five appearances before an eventual return to the big league team’s bullpen at the end of this month.
“I’m very excited about what I’ve seen from ‘Lo’,” Boone commented. “He’s close to returning and will be very good for us.”
The return of Stanton and Loáisiga would be a significant reinforcement for the Yankees in their quest to establish themselves as contenders in the American League.
