Sports Desk (EFE).- With a goal by Julián Quiñones in the 22nd minute and another by Raúl Jiménez in the 31st, Mexico defeated Ecuador 2-0 this Tuesday and qualified for the round of 16 of the World Cup, a stage in which they will face the winner of the series between England and the Democratic Republic of the Congo on July 5.

Driven by more than 80,000 fans, the Mexicans dominated in the first 10 minutes, during which they approached the area dangerously on three occasions, one of them with a header by Raúl Jiménez, on the verge of opening the scoring.

At 22 minutes, Mexico celebrated. Quiñones accepted a ball from Roberto Alvarado, escaped unmarked down the right flank and, patiently, paused before shooting with his right foot into the corner to make it 1-0 on the scoreboard.
