Santo Domingo.– The president of Centro Caribe Sports, Luis Mejía Oviedo, described this Tuesday as an “honorable distinction” the circulation of the commemorative postage stamp for the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, assuring that this issue immortalizes a historic edition of the regional event.

During the event held by the Dominican Postal Institute (INPOSDOM) and the Organizing Committee of Santo Domingo 2026, Mejía Oviedo highlighted the postal entity’s initiative to dedicate a series of stamps to the sporting event and assured that the Games are already part of the country’s historical heritage.
“It is an honorable distinction and a great pleasure for Centro Caribe Sports that the Dominican Postal Institute has decided to issue a postage stamp dedicated to the Games,” he expressed.
The sports leader took the opportunity to highlight the work being carried out by the Organizing Committee and stated that, with less than a month to go before the start of the event, the country is practically ready to receive the delegations from the region.

“I am honored to testify, as president of the Games’ parent organization, that a few days before their celebration we are practically ready as a nation to hold the Games,” he maintained.
Mejía Oviedo stressed that postage stamps transcend their function of postage and become permanent symbols of the identity of peoples.
“Postage stamps are more than just postage, they are more than an issue. They are history, but the true reason for a postage stamp is that they are works of art: they travel the world and remain,” he stated.
He added that, while sports competitions conclude and become part of historical records, stamps remain as a legacy that preserves collective memory.
“The Games pass and are inscribed in history. Postage stamps live forever and they live with a history that defines an identity, a culture and a nation,” he stated.
The president of Centro Caribe Sports also recalled the close historical relationship between the Olympic movement and philately, noting that major sporting events are often immortalized through postal issues.
“Be part of the history of the Olympic Games. There are no Olympics without the issuance of postage stamps for each edition. And a centenary edition like the one we will have in the country could not exist without its postage stamp either,” he expressed.
Finally, Mejía Oviedo celebrated that the 25th edition of the Central American and Caribbean Games, and the third to be held in the Dominican Republic, has been captured for posterity.
“The Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games are already sealed in history. They now have their postage stamp,” he concluded.
