ACOFAVE highlights re-export license granted to Refidomsa paves the way for adopting cleaner fuels in the country
Santo Domingo. – The Association of Vehicle Manufacturers Dealers (ACOFAVE) valued the Re-export License issued by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and SMEs (MICM) in favor of Refidomsa through Resolution 443-2025, considering it a strategic step to modernize the fuel market and move towards cleaner standards.
The entity highlighted that this measure creates real conditions for the country to definitively migrate to ultra-low sulfur diesel (15 ppm), the current international standard, especially at a time when the NORDOM 415 Standard is being reviewed, since the current level of 7,500 ppm, and the proposed 2,500 ppm, are completely outside global parameters and generate significant impacts on health, agriculture, and infrastructure.
ACOFAVE recalled that the use of high-sulfur diesel, according to the latest studies, is associated with up to 2500 annual deaths due to air pollution and severe damage to buildings and agricultural soils. In this context, the license allows the allocation of high-sulfur diesel to external markets, while national consumption moves towards safer fuels.
The association recommended immediately adopting the 15 ppm limit for all diesel used in the vehicle fleet, limiting high-sulfur diesel only to re-export, and establishing a maximum period of six months to complete the transition, considering that clean fuel is already available at fuel stations.
