Santiago. The First Collegiate Court of the Judicial District of Santiago has left the judicial process followed against six men accused of participating in the assault that ended in the death of the child Gioser Luis Féliz, a case that caused great consternation in the country in April 2023, in a state of judgment. The decision will be announced on June 30th.
The hearing concluded this Friday after the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the defense attorneys exhausted all phases of the trial, including the presentation of evidence, testimonies, and closing arguments, leaving the case ready for sentencing.
During the process, the Public Prosecutor’s Office reiterated its request for 40 years of imprisonment against Luis Ángel Vargas Brito, identified as the alleged person responsible for the shot that caused the minor’s death. Likewise, it requested 30-year prison sentences for the other individuals involved in the case.

Prosecutors maintain that the evidence presented during the trial demonstrates the defendants’ participation in the assault that occurred on the North Beltway of Santiago, where the child lost his life in the midst of the violent event.

In contrast, the defense questioned the legality and assessment of some of the evidence presented by the prosecution, alleging irregularities in certain evidentiary elements used during the proceedings of the case.
The defendants are Luis Ángel Vargas Brito, Darlyn Javier Mercado Martínez, Tomás Peña, José Manuel Almonte Santana, César Junior Ulloa Cuevas, and Elián Martínez Sánchez, who face charges related to the assault and death of the minor.
Expectation now centers on the reading of the sentence, scheduled for June 30, when the court will determine the criminal liability of the accused in one of the criminal cases that has caused the greatest impact on Dominican society in recent years.
