Santo Domingo.- The Queens of the Caribbean decisively defeated Puerto Rico 3 sets to 0 in the women’s volleyball semifinal of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, sealing their qualification to the grand final and maintaining their undefeated status in the tournament.
The Dominican team showed its superiority from the beginning of the match and dominated the Puerto Ricans with a solid game, both in attack and defense, before a Professor Ricardo “Gioriber” Arias Volleyball Palace that celebrated every point of the locals.
The Dominicans began by setting the pace of the match and took the first set 25-21, taking the lead in a semifinal in which Puerto Rico tried to stay close on the scoreboard, but could not stop the momentum of the hosts.
In the second set, the Queens of the Caribbean raised their level even further and achieved the widest margin of the match. The Dominican Republic prevailed 25-15, placing themselves just one set away from securing their qualification for the gold medal match of Santo Domingo 2026.
Puerto Rico reacted in the third set and starred in the closest partial of the night. The Puerto Ricans forced the Dominicans to extend beyond 25 points, but the Queens of the Caribbean responded at the decisive moment and ended up winning 28-26, to complete the 3-0 sweep and unleash the celebration of the public present.

Colombia will be the rival for the gold
In the grand final, the Dominican Republic will face Colombia, a team that also secured its ticket this Thursday night after defeating Cuba 3 sets to 1 in the other women’s volleyball semifinal of the Central American and Caribbean Games.
In this way, the Dominican and Colombian teams will play the decisive match for the gold medal of Santo Domingo 2026, where the Queens of the Caribbean will seek to put the finishing touch on their undefeated run and celebrate a new title in front of their home crowd.
