Santo Domingo.- Stores in the National District recorded a moderate flow of shoppers this Sunday during the celebration of Father’s Day, while merchants attribute part of this behavior to the fact that consumers have begun to organize themselves and make their purchases several days in advance.
José Piñero, owner of Centro Moda, explained that during the first hours of the day commercial activity remained slow, although he expected the influx to increase as the day progressed.
The merchant pointed out that, unlike in previous years, when many people left gift shopping until the last minute, consumers now tend to get ahead and purchase items to give to their parents well in advance.
“People are getting educated and are organizing themselves. They come in the days before to buy their gift for dad,” explained Piñero, highlighting that sales for this date have shown good performance in recent years.
Among the shoppers who visited stores this Sunday, clothing items remained among the top gift choices, with t-shirts and pants being some of the items selected for the occasion.
For one of the consumers consulted, parents also deserve to receive tokens of affection and recognition, especially for the role they play within their families.

“Fathers deserve a good gift just as much as mothers, because just as there are good mothers, there are also good fathers,” he/she expressed.
Another shopper agreed that the date represents an opportunity to recognize those men who have been present in their children’s lives, although she considered that traditionally mothers tend to receive more attention during their celebrations.
“People strive harder for mom, because a mother is a mother and no one can deny it, but fathers also deserve their place,” he stated.
The behavior recorded during the day reflects, according to merchants, a consumption dynamic that has been changing over time, marked by greater planning of purchases and a distribution of visits to establishments during the days prior to the celebration.
