The Airport Department (DA) announced today the start of the works corresponding to the asphalt paving process of the runway of the Domestic Airport El Granero del Sur, in the province of San Juan, as established in the work schedule.
The institution explains that the process began more than a week ago, with the first step, which is liquid asphalt or priming.
“We are working tirelessly, but complying with due process so that this province of San Juan has this important airport in operation in a short time,” said Victor Pichardo, executive director of the DA.
However, I note that in recent days San Juan has received a significant amount of rain, which has hindered progress, as work such as the cement stabilization of some affected areas has had to be carried out, in order to subsequently continue the process with the runway, taxiway and parking apron.
After the asphalt priming, used to create a waterproof layer and improve adhesion between the road surface and the asphalt wearing course, the placement of the wearing course will proceed and, in a final stage, with signage and lighting, among others.
Meanwhile, the gray structure that will house the air terminal is ready for the mezzanine floor to be emptied.
Similarly, progress is also being made on the construction of the barracks where the Air Force will operate.
