Santiago.-Santiago authorities announced this Tuesday the official program of commemorative activities for the 182nd anniversary of the Battle of March 30th, a patriotic day that will be attended by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, and will include solemn acts, a civic-military parade and the inauguration of several works in different parts of the province.
The announcement was made by the provincial governor, Rosa Santos, and the provincial president of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), Andrés Cueto, who detailed that the events will begin next Monday, March 30, from 8:00 in the morning, with the raising of the National Flag and military honors in the style of the Imbert Park, an emblematic setting of the historical patriotic feat.
Subsequently, at 9:00 a.m., the president will lead the traditional Te Deum in the Santiago Apostle Cathedral, accompanied by civil and military authorities and representatives from different sectors of Santiago society.
The official agenda will continue at 10:00 a.m. with the expected civic, student, military, and police parade, which will take place on Las Carreras Avenue, corner of General López, in honor of the heroes of the Battle of March 30, one of the most transcendental feats in Dominican history.

During the meeting with the press, Andrés Cueto also informed that, after leading the commemorative parade, President Luis Abinader will undertake an extensive agenda of inaugurations in Santiago, including the delivery of 700 property titles to families in the municipal district of Hato del Yaque, as well as several road and sports infrastructure works.
Among the announced works are two roads in the municipality of San José de las Matas (Sajoma): one that connects Sajoma with Los Montones, Pedregal and Guazumal, with a length of 12.9 kilometers, and another road that goes from Rincón de Piedra to Carrizal, of 3.2 kilometers. The delivery of a roof in Santiago Oeste, in the municipal district Plinio Martínez, and another roof in the municipality of Licey al Medio, specifically in La Blanca, is also contemplated.
The authorities took the opportunity to invite the entire population of Santiago to join this patriotic day, highlighting that the parade will not only pay tribute to the restorers’ heroes, but will also serve to showcase the preparation, discipline and advances of the Armed Forces and the National Police, along with the participation of hundreds of students from different educational centers.

The commemoration of March 30th represents one of the most significant dates for the historical memory of Santiago and the country, recalling the battle fought in 1844, in which Dominicans bravely defended national sovereignty against Haitian troops, thus consolidating the newly proclaimed independence.
