School year 2025-2026 kicks off with simultaneous events in the 122 school districts

Santo Domingo. – The Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (Minerd) announced that tomorrow, Monday, August 25, the 2025-2026 school year will begin with simultaneous events in the 122 school districts, for which the participation of national and local authorities will be arranged in opening ceremonies in each educational demarcation.

The Minerd recalled that more than 2 million students are called to join the classrooms from this Monday, along with teachers, directors, administrative staff and families, within the framework of a school year that reaffirms the Government’s commitment to guarantee quality education for all.

The Minister of Education, Luis Miguel De Camps, assured that the necessary conditions have been put in place so that every child and adolescent in the country receives a quality education, emphasizing that the Government is committed to supporting the entire educational community in this return to school.

The central ceremony will take place at the Casandra Damirón Educational Center, in Santo Domingo Este, where the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, and the Minister of Education, Luis Miguel De Camps, will begin the new academic cycle.

In parallel, the Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, will lead the opening ceremony in Santiago, at the María Secundina Torres Siri Primary School, as a demonstration of the Government’s commitment to education as an axis of national development.

In addition, ministers, legislators, and directors of public institutions will participate in activities in different educational regions. The Minister of Public Administration, Sigmund Freund, will attend the ceremony in Pedernales, at the Pastor Roberto Méndez Educational Arts Center; while, in San Cristóbal, the general administrator of Empresa de Generación Hidroeléctrica Dominicana (Egehid), Rafael Salazar, will preside over the opening at the Pablo Barinas School.

In Hato Mayor, the Minister of Energy and Mines, Joel Santos, will be at the Miguel Ángel Garrido High School, and the Director of Budget, José Rijo Presbot, will lead the event at the César Nicolás Penson Arts High School. In San Pedro de Macorís, at the José Francisco Peña Gómez High School, the Minister of Women, Mayra Jiménez, and the Executive Vice President of Seguros Reservas, Nelson Arroyo, will participate.

In La Vega, the Ministers of Sports and Agriculture, Kelvin Cruz and Limber Cruz, will preside over the ceremony at the Mercedes Morelia Women’s Polytechnic. While in Moca, the Administrative Minister of the Presidency, Andrés Bautista, will do so at the Nuevo Renacer Educational Center.

In Hermanas Mirabal, the director of the National Institute for Technical Professional Training (Infotep), Rafael Santos, will lead the opening at the Anselmo López Center. In Puerto Plata, Governor Claritza Rochtte, Senator Ginnette Bournigal, and the director of IDAC, Igor Rodríguez, will participate. In Miches, the legal consultant to the Executive Branch, Antoliano Peralta, will lead the event at the Lucas Guibbes Center.

In Regional 15 of Santo Domingo, the events will take place at different locations: Gloria Reyes, executive director of the Social Development Directorate (Supérate), at the Gabriela Mistral School, Los Alcarrizos; the Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raful, at the República de Cuba Primary School, Santo Domingo; the mayor of the National District, Carolina Mejía, and the Minister of Health, Víctor Atallah, at the Padre Arias School, and the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes, Ito Bisonó, along with the deputy Alfredo Pacheco, at the Víctor Pascual Agüero Polytechnic.

Also, in Santo Domingo, at the Republic of Chile School, the Director General of Customs, Eduardo Sanz Lovatón, will participate.

In Regional 16, from Cotuí, the Senate president, Ricardo de los Santos, will participate in the Francisco Henríquez y Carvajal High School, while the Minister of Labor, Eddy Olivares, will be at the Guaroa Moreta School, Bonao.

Also, in Regional 17, of Monte Plata, the Minister of Environment, Paíno Henríquez, will preside over the opening at the Fray Pedro de Córdoba Educational Center, District 17-01, Yamasá.
