Bangkok.- The death toll from the fire at a bar in Bangkok has risen from 28 to 30 in the last few hours, with 24 patients in critical condition and 36 discharged, while investigations continue at the Na Lat Phrao brewery, located in the north of the capital of Thailand.
The last two deceased are two injured people who were in critical condition, as specified by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) in a social media post.
As of Monday night, 24 Thai nationals and one Laotian citizen had already been identified among the fatalities, according to what Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated to EFE.
Bangkok orders inspection of hundreds of nightlife venues
Although the police said yesterday that the bar had its permits in order, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of the Interior, Arsit Sampantharat, assured the media that the type of licenses the establishment held, located near the huge Chatuchak market, visited every weekend by thousands of international tourists, will be reviewed.
“If they are not registered as entertainment venues but operate as such, they are breaking the law,” the official stressed.

For his part, the governor of Bangkok, Chadchart Sittipunt, has ordered the inspection of hundreds of tourist venues in the capital to check fire prevention systems.

“Random inspections will be carried out every night, without the need for a formal inspection. If any risk is detected, the immediate closure of the establishment will be ordered. Districts have been instructed to increase vigilance, act with greater rigor, and implement these measures immediately,” Chadchart noted in a press conference.
Security concern
Meanwhile, the Na Lat Phrao brewery issued a statement in which it apologizes for what happened and expresses its condolences to the families of the deceased. It also assures that it is “collecting all relevant information and evidence to cooperate fully with the Police.”
