SANTO DOMINGO.– The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) defeated the General Directorate of Passports (DGP) 25-6 via super knockout, securing the final ticket to the semifinals of the IX Governmental Softball Tournament, Mayor’s Cup of the National District, organized by the Softball Association of the National District (Asadina).
The victory places the university squad against ARS-Reservas in a sudden-death match, scheduled for this Saturday, July 11, in the second time slot, at the UASD stadium. Banreservas and the Ministry of Labor will also face each other during the day, and the winners of both matches will subsequently compete in the grand final for the National District Mayor’s Cup.
The president of Asadina, Apolinar Durán Brito, highlighted the atmosphere of fellowship that has characterized the championship and invited the softball community to support the decisive day. He recalled that the tournament brought together 14 teams, seven belonging to ministries and the rest to decentralized State institutions, with the goal of strengthening integration among public servants through softball.
Durán Brito also reported that the matches will be narrated and broadcast live by the Deporte del Patio Live Streaming network, the official media outlet of the National District Softball Association, and by Richard Deportes RD. Likewise, he expressed his gratitude for the support provided by the participating institutions, considering that the event promotes healthy recreation for public employees.

Before the start of the match, the administrative vice-rector of the UASD, Ramón Desangles, and engineer Gustavo Henríquez Hernández, representing the director general of Passports, Lorenzo Ramírez, urged the players to compete with a sporting spirit and highlighted the importance of initiatives like this tournament to strengthen coexistence among State institutions, for which they congratulated the management of Asadina.

The university offense set the pace of the game from the first inning with a seven-run rally and never lowered the intensity, backing a solid pitching performance by Víctor Soto, who worked four innings, allowed nine hits, struck out three batters, and issued three walks to earn the victory. The loss went to Casimiro Martínez, who was punished with 11 of the 20 hits recorded by the UASD.
Offensively, Kendry Pérez led the attack with a home run, two doubles, and a single, in addition to driving in four runs. Also standing out were Júnior Zayas, with a home run and two singles; Caonabo Lemonier, with a double and two hits, and Juan Peralta, with two hits. For the General Directorate of Passports, Deivi Piñeyro connected for two doubles, while Israel Pérez, Mártires Aponte, and Robert Rodríguez each contributed a double.
