Valverde.– Members of the Dominican Republic Army (ERD) detained two Dominican citizens who were transporting four Haitian nationals in an irregular migratory status hidden in a truck, during an operation carried out in the municipality of Mao, Valverde province.
According to the military report, the foreigners were being transported hidden in the cabin and under a tarp in the back of the vehicle, with the alleged objective of evading the checkpoints established by the authorities.
The soldiers intercepted the white International brand truck on the Mao–Santiago Rodríguez highway, after the driver attempted to evade a military patrol that was conducting surveillance in the area.
The vehicle was driven by Algenis Santos Madera, who was accompanied by Andri José Cruz Torres, both of Dominican nationality. During the inspection, the military personnel located three Haitian citizens in an irregular migratory status hidden in the cabin and a fourth foreigner under a tarp in the back of the truck. Among the migrants was a woman.
The two detainees, along with the four foreigners and the vehicle, were transferred to the headquarters of the Fourth Infantry Brigade of the ERD, where they will be placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office for the corresponding legal purposes.

Meanwhile, the Haitian citizens will be handed over to the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) for the process established in the current migration legislation.
