Santo Domingo.- With deep sorrow, family, friends, and neighbors attended the funeral this Tuesday of basketball player Yeury Rodríguez Batista, 30, who lost his life after being shot during a robbery that occurred in the San Carlos sector of the National District.
In the midst of the funeral at the Villa Carmen municipal funeral home, the young man’s relatives called on journalist Ramón Tolentino to follow up on the case and help ensure that the authorities clarify the crime and that those responsible are brought to justice.
According to preliminary information, Rodríguez Batista was shot twice on Benito González Street, near the San Carlos Club, while he was helping a friend install a sound system in a vehicle with which they were preparing to celebrate Father’s Day.
During the assault, the criminals also stripped him of a chain before fleeing.
The young man’s death has caused dismay among his loved ones and residents of the community, who described him as a hardworking man with a passion for basketball.
So far, the authorities have not reported any arrests in connection with the incident, while family and friends insist that the case should not go unpunished.
Yeuri’s remains will be buried this afternoon at 3:00 PM at the Cristo Salvador Cemetery.
