Santo Domingo.– The family of Manuel de Regla Arias Martínez has appealed to the public’s solidarity to help cover the medical treatment he urgently needs due to lymphoma, a type of cancer that affects the lymph nodes.
According to his wife, Yomari de Jesús, the patient was receiving treatment through private health insurance, but about a year ago he lost coverage after being laid off from his job. Since then, they have made various efforts to obtain the medication he requires on an ongoing basis.
The woman indicated that the case was submitted to the Ministry of Public Health’s High-Cost Medication Program; however, they are still awaiting a response since March of this year. Meanwhile, Arias Martínez has gone more than four months without receiving the medication necessary to control the disease.
According to Yomari de Jesús, the treatment costs around RD$560,000 for a 30-pill supply, a figure the family cannot afford with their own resources.

In addition to the efforts made with the High-Cost Program, the family members also went to the Office of the First Lady in search of help to obtain the medication, but so far they have not received a favorable response.
The family requested the collaboration of people who can provide any financial help, since the lack of treatment could worsen the patient’s health condition. Likewise, they appealed to the solidarity of the public, institutions, and companies to face this difficult situation.
