Santo Domingo.– The Dominican Republic will have a new response mechanism for disappearance cases, after President Luis Abinader enacted Law 25-26, a regulation that establishes the national system “Alertas RD” to expedite the location of persons reported as missing.
The legislation contemplates different alert categories, designed to specifically address each case according to the characteristics of the missing person, allowing for faster action by the authorities.
Among the included modalities is the AMBER Alert, intended for the search for children and adolescents whose disappearance represents a risk to their integrity.
The regulation also incorporates the SILVER Alert, aimed at locating adults over 65 years of age, especially in situations where they may be disoriented or in a vulnerable condition.
Likewise, the BLUE Alert is established, focused on cases involving people with physical, intellectual, or mental disabilities, with the purpose of accelerating search procedures.

Another component of the system is the PINK Alert, created to address the disappearances of women related to possible acts of gender-based violence or human trafficking.
The authorities believe that this new scheme will allow for improved coordination between the responsible institutions, optimize response times, and strengthen search mechanisms throughout the national territory.
Law 25-26 seeks to consolidate a more efficient model to address disappearance cases, incorporating differentiated protocols according to the nature of each situation.
