The Arte y Cultura Raíces Foundation, together with Solfa y Tinta, held an emotional tribute to the prominent Dominican musician, composer, and cultural manager Luis “Terror” Días, as the 74th anniversary of his birth was commemorated this past June 21st. The event took place at Abbad Gallery and brought together artists, personalities, cultural managers, communicators, and admirers of the legacy of one of the most influential figures in Dominican popular music.

The meeting was dedicated to exalting the trajectory and contributions of Luis Días to merengue, bachata, rock, and traditional Dominican rhythms, genres he helped transform and project from an innovative vision deeply linked to the national cultural identity.

Among the attendees were singer-songwriter Dioni Fernández; journalist and president of Acroarte, Marivell Contreras; cultural manager and director of Abbad Gallery, Ana María Henríquez Herrera; director of the Banreservas Cultural Center, Mijael Peralta; and the vice president of Communications and Responsibility of Banreservas, Franklin Soriano, among other personalities from the artistic and cultural sphere.

The day included musical performances by singer Susana Silfa, who performed some of the most representative songs from the work of Luis Días and was in charge of opening the event. Likewise, she participated in a discussion with maestro Dioni Fernández, during which they shared anecdotes and reflections on the artistic and human dimension of the honoree.

The young performer Cinthia Brens was also part of the artistic program, offering a special rendition of iconic songs such as “Marola”.

During her speech, Ana María Henríquez highlighted the importance of preserving the memory of Luis, who have contributed significantly to the country’s cultural development.

“Somos muy dados a olvidar a esas grandes personas que han aportado a nuestra vida democrática y sociocultural. Luis, así como otros tantos personajes, son nuestros guías dentro de este trabajo cultural y nuestras inspiraciones. Decidimos celebrar su vida y, mientras podamos, seguiremos resaltando su legado y todos los aportes que realizó a la cultura dominicana”, expresó.

For her part, journalist Marivell Contreras stated that the figure of Luis Días deserves greater recognition from Dominican society due to his role as a promoter of national cultural roots.

“Me siento muy feliz. Este es un evento que me llena el alma porque realmente creo que la República Dominicana debería conocer más a Luis y rendirle honor. Nadie como Luis Días ha servido de puente para transmitir la cultura dominicana y las raíces de nuestra música a las nuevas generaciones a través de la música popular”, manifestó.

Contreras also pointed out that the initiative is part of a sustained effort to spread the significance of the artist’s work.

“We are a team that never tires of talking about Luis or working to convey what his legacy was and the immense contribution he made to Dominican music,” he added.

As part of the tribute, the organizers presented a special recognition to maestro Dioni Fernández for his contributions to the Dominican music industry and for his more than four decades of artistic career.

Fernández also participated as a special guest in a discussion on the cultural legacy of Días, taking the opportunity to highlight his closeness and experiences with the production of the song “El Guardia del Arsenal,” recalling the impact that song had on the dissemination of Luis Días’s work.

“One of the greatest satisfactions that music has given me was serving as a bridge for the Dominican people to know who Luis Días was through ‘El Guardia del Arsenal’. Thanks to that song, people embraced that great composer and his work began to spread throughout the country. Luis was a great promoter of music, literature, and the storytelling that marked an era,” he expressed.

The activity is part of a tradition that has been maintained since 2016 with the purpose of preserving and disseminating the legacy of Luis Días. Over the years, the initiative has counted on the participation of family members, friends, admirers, and renowned figures of national culture, including Pavel Núñez and Dagoberto Tejeda, who have joined the effort to keep alive the memory of one of the most important references of Dominican music and cultural identity.
